Shadows Fall raised the bar again with their brand new work Retribution: On this fifth studio album the New England melodic thrashers improved their style beyond solid. Although the record is still pure "Shadows Fall", their sound definitely evolved. On the one hand, the record is moderate and well tempered, on the other hand thrashier, straight to the point, with a lot of heavy, non-stop assault parts. This is undoubtedly Shadows Fall's finest work to date!

My Mind's Weapon played along with other great bands like Alexisonfire, Bleeding Through and Cult of Luna, but strangely almost nobody knows them. The band from Scotland sounds intentionally different and sets oneself apart from the mass. Their innovative mix of Thrash Metal, Metalcore and Technical Metal elements is definitely a fresh breeze for the scene!

The bands name Cataract is also the name for an eye disease. Revolver is the forth full length studio album from The Haunted. The band was formed in 1996 by Patrik Jensen and former At the Gates members. The Haunted stands for a strong force in the thrash metal scene and this album is the perfect example. Recent albums of the haunted have a slightly different style: Although they are overall more quiet and technical the true thrash metal origins are still there.

This band achieved such a great status in this genre, that you can almost say that they can't go for more. Fact is, that they played shows together with Machine Head and Killswitch Engage. The lead-vocalist Matthew Kiichi Heafy was only nineteen years old when Ascendancy was recorded, but this don't means that his voice sounds awful. Far from it!!!
